Defensible Space Requirements
Inertia Land Management helps clients meet California’s legal requirements for defensible space as defined in Public Resources Code (PRC) § 4291 and supported by CAL FIRE’s guidelines.
Zone 0 (0–5 feet)
Maintain an ember-resistant zone around all structures. Remove all combustible material such as firewood, mulch, and flammable plants.
Zone 2 (30–100 feet)
Mow grass, create vertical spacing between tree branches and shrubs, and thin vegetation to slow fire spread.
Zone 1 (0–30 feet)
Remove dead vegetation, trim trees, create safe spacing between shrubs and trees, clean roofs and gutters, and keep items that can burn away from structures.
We stay current with CAL FIRE’s regulations and local fire ordinances to ensure your property meets or exceeds defensible space standards. For more information, visit CAL FIRE’s official defensible space page at fire.ca.gov/dspace.
